Blog Entry 9: Overview of Critical Approach

FREUD (SYMBOLISM)
JUNG (ARCHETYPES)
CAMPBELL (MONOMYTH)
PEARSON (HEROIC ARCHETYPES)

For my more depth critical approach i will be using a little bit of each of the topics that we talked and analyzed in class. It was very unclear  and confused because Kinos characters goes thru many stages of denial and of archetypes. I believe the book starts off by using Jung archetypes of Kino being the father figure in the beginning but changes to a Pearson's Innocent Archetype by finding happiness where there is emptiness and evil.I will be using the one of Carol S. Pearson's Archetypes, which is the (innocent) to describe Kino. I will also use the help of the Heroic Myth Test to see if i can understand better each of the characters of the book. I will talk about many of the symbolizing (Freud) that is used in the book and how they created a certain theme for the book, i believe the "Pearl" is the biggest symbolizing there because that is what the books mood focuses on and if it wasn't for the pearl nothing would happen to Kino and his humble family. I will also use Campbell's quest to describe the family's journey and survival.

There are three different characters that show the Jung Archetypes
The father (Kino): Authority figure; stern; powerful
The hero: Champion; defender; rescuer.

The mother (Juana): Nurturing; comforting
The child (Coyotito): Longing for innocence; rebirth; salvation.

The six archetypes I am only focusing on are below:
  1. The Orphan: to survival
  2. The Wanderer: find yourself
  3. The Warrior: prove yourself
  4. The Altruist: help others
  5. The Innocent: find happiness and contentment
  6. The Magician: change the world
  7. CAMPBELL (MONOMYTH)
